"Practice S": a Summerville dental office in three AIs

We asked Google's AI Mode, ChatGPT and Perplexity eight questions a new patient in Summerville, SC might ask. We asked twice, four hours apart, and recorded which practices each AI recommended.

#1 → #4
its position for "best dentist in Summerville SC" between the two runs on Google
4–5 / 8
questions Google's AI named it on: more than any other practice
2–3 / 8
questions ChatGPT named it on, and never for "best dentist"
1 / 8
questions where all three AIs named it in both runs

What we found

1

Its position moves between runs. Google's AI put Practice S first for "best dentist in Summerville SC" in the morning and fourth in the afternoon, with no change on its end. One screenshot would have told you the wrong story, in either direction.

2

Google likes it. ChatGPT keeps leaving it out. It was Google's most-named practice both times, but ChatGPT didn't name it for "best dentist" in either run, and named it on only 2 of 8 questions in the second run.

3

Only one question where all three agreed. Emergency dentistry was the single question where all three AIs named it, both times. On cosmetic and pediatric questions, none of them named it in either run.

What we'd do first

  1. Get onto the pages ChatGPT and Perplexity read. Local "best of" lists, directories and health sites. The audit names the ones each AI actually quoted.
  2. Give each service a clear page. If cosmetic or family care is part of the practice, a plain page per service, with who it's for and what to expect, gives the AI something to quote.
  3. Keep facts consistent everywhere. Hours, insurance accepted and new-patient status should match across the website, Google profile and directories.
  4. Re-check monthly with the same questions, so you can tell a real change from normal movement.
